Message from the Grand Knight

While the present fraternal year draws to a close, we are looking forward to the new fraternal year beginning on July 1.  Officer nominations are in, but not yet closed, so nominations from the floor prior to the actual election can still be made..  While I can speak from only limited experience, most of the officer positions do not require a great deal of work, short of attendance at meetings.  More effort and time commitment is needed to support the various activities that we undertake.

And speaking of activities, we are planning to continue what was done in the past and start new efforts.  Our field agent is looking for an opportunity to hold at least two Fraternal Benefits meetings, which, to get credit from Supreme, we need a minimum of seven attendees.  There is no obligation, but the financial products offered by the Knights of Columbus are varied and world-class, beyond the life insurance typically associated with Knights.  We will also plan at least two membership drives.  As our membership ages and many of us cannot be as active as we might like, new members are essential to the growth and longevity of the Council.

New officer installations for the Council and the Assembly will take place on July 19.  Presently, we are planning a Mass, the Council installation, the Assembly installation, and followed by a reception and dinner in the Social Hall.  The plan is to open the ceremonies and the dinner to all Knights and their wives and to any parishioners who wish to attend.  The Council and Assembly will subsidize about half the cost and sale of tickets will cover the rest.

Plan to attend.  If you have not been to an Officer Installation before, it is an opportunity to see the ceremony and participate in the third principle of the Order, fraternity.

The feast day of Blessed Michael McGivney is August 13th, which falls on a Sunday this year.  If we can get a good attendance, we can celebrate this feast of our founder on August 14 with a Mass and gathering in the Social Hall.  Can we count on you and your wife to attend?

Please watch for the Knights newsletters from the Council and the Assembly for information about our activities.  Please use our fledgling website at for more information and the links to sign up for various events.  As the website matures, we seek comments from users – what you like, what you don’t like and what you would like to see.  Let us know what you think.
