Memorial Day Flag

May 28, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Each year around Memorial Day, volunteers gather at national cemeteries and place American flags at the headstones of the fallen.  Florida National Cemetery is one of the 136 cemeteries where this event is held each year.  There are over 190,000 grave sites of American Veterans and their families honored in this cemetery.

This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the Knights of Columbus support of our Veterans.

What to bring:

  • A screw driver and hammer to make a hole to push the flag into the ground
  • Your own bottled drinking water

The entire event will take about 90 minutes rain or shine.

Our participation is sponsored by the Fourth Degree as the patriotic degree, Assembly 3296.  We are assigned:

  • Section: 109/111/113-134
  • Placement: 05/28/2023 @ 0900
  • Removal: 06/03/2023 @ 0900

There usually is a large gathering of many different groups that go to honor deceased veterans so there is traffic approaching the cemetery along CR 478B at I 75 exit 309.  Rather than use exit 309, it is better to approach the cemetery from the north; use exit 314.

Head west on 48, in approximately ¾ mile turn left on 616 (Hayes Road), in one mile turn right on 476, in 3.5 miles turn left on 476B.  The entrance to the cemetery is about 2.5 miles.  Follow the cemetery map to our assigned sections.  Make a right (or left) on Florida Circle and park near the cemetery shelter across from our sections.
